‘member when…? Mt. Kilimanjaro

I was organizing (and by organizing I mean I was unpacking boxes that have been in my closet since I moved in my house…over a year ago) my home office and came across the certificate from my Mt. Kilimanjaro climb.  I actually did a double take because I had forgotten that I actually climbed the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Who the heck forgets something like that? Let’s rewind for a bit and recall the following fun facts:

  1. I had ZERO experience – The last thing I climbed was a gate when i was a kid. And I was running from a dog at the time so it definitely wasn’t intentional.
  2. I was SOLO – With the exception of the crew who came with the package to carry supplies and cook my meals I climbed this mountain by myself.
  3. When in Rome Tanzania – Since I was a tourist who was already in Tanzania, had already been on safari in the Serengeti, knew I would NEVA EVA EVA EVA NEVA set foot back in this country why the heck wouldn’t I climb a random mountain?
  4. I actually never reached the top – So in true Vee fashion I was a few meters away from the top and developed mountain sickness. In case you don’t know what the  which includes hallucinating, vomiting, and

Are you happy?

Happiness-Quotes-Part-1-21   Take a quick moment and ask yourself this question, “Are you really happy?”.  I’d love to say that as the writer of this blog, Defining Happy, that my life is filled with skips through lavender fields, impromptu moonwalks down the sidewalk, and an abundance of happy days but that’s not the case. I’m Continue reading

Are You Already Slacking On Your Resolutions?

Ok so I guess I’ve abandoned this blog been away long enough.  So let’s get this party started…..again.

It’s a brand spanking new year and judging by the decreasing amount of cars in the gym parking lot it’s about that time where some of us start to slack on our mile long list of New Year’s resolutions.  I know we are all tired of hearing the cliché Continue reading

Farewell Penang (tear)

Penang Neighborhood

I’ve already shared with you all how impressed I was with Malaysia and it’s people so far. At first glance you’d look at the old and unkempt buildings and heaps of trash all over the place and assume that this place is filled with people who mirror this image. It is in fact the total opposite. Continue reading

First impressions are lasting impressions

Penang Airport

From the moment I boarded my flight on FireFly to Penang, Malaysia I knew it was going to be a great experience.  The flight attendants were genuinely pleasant and it was all of 8 people on the entire flight which is fantastic when you’ve been waiting eons for your flight all the while sitting next to a Japanese cat who was repeatedly puking spitting on the floor and smearing the yummy pea green goodness that came out of the back of his throat with his shoe.  Continue reading

Taking the good with the bad

I had a pretty cool evening yesterday.  I was given an impromptu tour around the island and finally got to stick my feet in the ocean and feel the breeze from up high.  It’s pretty amazing how a large and powerful body of water has such a calming effect. I ended my night enjoying a good dinner while looking over a cliff and being screamed at by wild and begging stray cats.  Continue reading

Thinking of a master plan…

My initial purpose for coming to Phuket was to check one item off of my list that has been on said list for well over two years.  “Must lose 30lbs!”.  It’s not so much the number I’m concerned about.  It’s more of a want and lightweight dire need to get back in shape and be happy with the body that I see in the mirror. (I know all the men are reading this and rolling their eyes.) Continue reading
