Leavin’ on a midnight train to Georgia

Hualamphong train station

Well maybe not Georgia but I am definitely on a train….to Cambodia.

So I can officially say farewell and good riddens to Thailand. The road through “the land of smiles” has definitely been bitter sweet but overall I’m extra happy to be out this beeeeeaaaaatch. (Sorry, Mom…had to slide that word in. You know I’m still a work in progress. Halleluyer 😉 )

Anyway…I’m writing today from the Hualamphong bus station in Bangkok.

All my crap

I’m on a train that will take me within 4 miles of the Cambodian border. I got up at 3:45 so I could be on time to make this early a** 5:55 am train. What I’ve seen on this joint so far has amazed me. On a train at 5 in the morning you get some of er’body selling some of er’thing. A lady stopped at my row with a laundry basket full of fried chicken, chicken on a stick, and sandwich bags full of rice. She politely laid it on my bench and yelled loudly asked me in Thai if I wanted some of that yummy goodness 😐  I’m sure you all remember me saying that I’m a vegetarian so old greasy looking fried chicken did not appeal to me and actually made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. But I digress….  I’ve also seen a cat selling sunglasses and portable radios out of his laundry basket. I kid you not.

The highlight so far (enter an extreme case of sarcasm) has been the couple with 3 kids under the age of 2 that sat across from me. Anybody that knows me knows that..”she” don’t do kids on any form of transportation. Not planes, tuk tuk’s, buses, cars, paddle boats, or bicycles.  Don’t get me wrong Miss Venus love the kids, however, the uncontrollable crying and yelling AND screaming is not good for my well-being.

I’ll give this family a small pass due to the youngest who looks to be about 4 months (this is a guess coming from a person who has no children and is rarely around them) who looks like a cute little buddha. He’s cooing and happy and grinning from ear to ear. His mom and dad on the other hand have on the stink face and are looking around to see if there are any more available seats open so they don’t have to sit across from the scary looking black chick for 6 hours. They either can’t read or are pretty desperate as they have just made an attempt to sit in the seats reserved for monks, disabled, and senior citizens. Now they’re sitting across from me again looking ever so pissed. :-)

Plush seats on the 3rd class train :-|

Update: About ten minutes later as we are still sitting on the tracks in Bangkok the family across from me realized they were on the wrong train and got off. See God don’t like ugly 😉 Boop!

Prayer break: Thank you father God for looking out for me and my last nerve.

The two older kids looked like they were 23 seconds away from a temper tantrum or a long drawn out crying spell anyway so it was for the best that they exited stage left peacefully :-)

I’m extra tired but I keep thinking all my bags, flip flops, and one earring will probably be gone if I try to take a quick nap. I vote for sleep deprivation!
