So long ‘Nam

My time in Vietnam is coming to a close tomorrow and I’m so ready to move on to the next country I don’t know what to do with myself.

Although I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to travel through a country I’ve only read about in books I know I nearly gave my Momma a heart attack when I told her I was on my way here.  I don’t even know what may have been going through her head but I’m sure it had something to do with me stepping on a landmine or being kidnapped and put into a cage at the local zoo.  (Love you Mom :-)

I had planned to spend my last day sitting in my room, booking my flight to Mongolia, and securing a place to stay in Korea.  Instead I sparked up a conversation with a guy from Sweden who was occupying the bunk next to mine.  Our conversation lasted well in to the wee hours of the night and across 3 different locations.

It’s amazing how you can meet someone who at first glance appears so different but in actuality has more in common with you than you thought.  Listening to this guys story made me feel humbled and inspired.  He told me about his hardships, willingness to stop living a mediocre existence, and all he had sacrificed and endured along the way.  I reassured him that he was a great person that had more to offer the world than the naysayers could ever imagine.

Such a lovely way to end my time in Vietnam. Lending an ear and being reminded that there is plenty to be grateful for because things could always be worse.

To Chris: Safe travels along the unbeaten path.  The sky is the limit my friend!
