Breaking News: No rice included with your meal?

Why in the world is rice an additional cost when you order most meals in Southeast Asia…and now at some restaurants in Korea?

I went to get I almost cursed out loud when the Indian cat in a restaurant told me that rice was an extra $6.  “What the….? You said what now?” I don’t need a 10lb bag of rice I just want a cup full to eat with my curry. With the curry already costing $11 there was no way in hell I was paying another $6 for a handful of rice. I should’ve been paid for coming in that piece since I was the only one there.

Anyway…I’ve noticed this new “phenomenon” in other countries but the rice was at most an extra 75 cents.  Sometimes they are stingy on the rice like they are in the back counting out 27 grains per person.

Since I’m a genius I left the Indian restaurant and went to a Thai spot and got some pineapple fried rice and tofu for $7. I was waiting for the chick to come and tell me that I had to pay extra for the rice but it didn’t happen. The food was surprisingly delish and the people cooking it were actually Thai which also surprised the heck out of me. There’s a Brazilian Steakhouse across the alley from my hotel and no one in there has been to Brazil nor do they speak Portuguese. I only know this because the Korean guy running the place also checked me in at the hotel when I got here. He walks back and forth 😐

Anyway, if this “no rice with the meal at the asian restaurants” trend spreads to the US I’m going to start boycotting. Let me find out I’m going to have to boil my own rice at home and carry it in a ziplock bag to the restaurant with me.

Good Grief…

This happens here in the U.S. too. I’ve been to a few places and so wanted to give people the side eye for asking me to pay $1 for rice. Really now? Sigh…
