Locked up…they won’t let me out

The flight in to Phuket was a cross between a foreign porno and a xanax. I sat next to a young japanese couple who damn near made a baby during the one hour flight.  Just imagine a lot of panting, skin sucking, and giggling for 60 loooooong minutes 😐  I’m quite sure I threw up in my mouth at least 3 times during the flight.

On the other the views from the plane while landing were quite breathtaking and serene. Even the nastiness that was going on next to me came to a halt as the scenery demanded full attention from all that looked its way.

The ride to my hostel in Chalong was pretty scenic. Beautiful greenery, fresh air, and a family of 6 piled on top of one scooter.  Then came the Sizzler restaurant and the Premium Outlets that threw me completely off guard.

Then it went slightly downhill from there.

After 1 millisecond of entering my new digs in Phuket the Akon song “Locked up” started playing in my head. Other than the abnormally large mini fridge it looks like a jail cell. The “cable tv” that was advertised in the package was now said to be a mistake and only meant for the air conditioned rooms *blank stare*.  (You said what now?) I wasn’t that upset being that I own a 52 inch tv flat screen and can count on one hand how many times its been turned on in the last 2 years. But what if I was looking forward to some Thai soap operas or something?

I talked to my Mom via Skype and showed her the room.  Her first words were “It looks like you’re in a jail cell”.  Confirmation indeed.

For the eat, sleep, train (and the occasional goofing off) mentality that I plan to have while I’m here in Phuket I guess the spot will do. I hadn’t planned on the roosters sounding off at 3am or the lizards that greet you in the middle of the night in the bathrooms but I’m sure this isn’t the worst accomodation I will be staying in so I’m going to make the most of it.  For $160 a month what more can you really expect?

Hey Gilligan, is there a chance we might get off this island? VQ, just seemed like a good lead in to this day. Quite the scenery, but been there and have the t-shirt to prove that countries with those beautifully misleading scenes are just a front for some very unpleasant accomodations. Yeah, my quarters in Kosovo were just a cut above :) HOWEVER, as we search for that inner peace in oneself… comfort and beauty greets you er’day. Hang tough sister. LoL Ervin

I think this was more of a “you get what you pay for” type of deal. It’s a little over $5 a day to stay here so I can be expecting the Ritz Carlton.

p.s. I don’t think beauty greeted me in that bathroom 😉
