When shit hits the fan….WWMVD (What would Miss Venus Do?)

I’ve used about 482304982309832 ATM’s around the world with no issues.  Today, I get an email from a representative at one of my banks notifying me that the ATM that I had just used one hour prior was Continue reading

Defining Gratitude

Gratitude – the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful –dictionary.com

If it had not been for the thousands of Facebook posts from friends and family I swear I would have forgotten that today was Thanksgiving. I am in a country outside of the US so it is obvious that no one here celebrates this holiday.

This time last year I was a few weeks in to my much needed therapy sessions and I was a huge ball filled to the rim with every emotion you could think of…..with the exception of anger. Although I felt as thought the weight of the world was on my shoulder I didn’t want to sulk and complain. So instead of wallowing in own mess on my couch with a sad chick flick and two bags of hot fries and an entire ice cream cake from Dairy Queen Continue reading

Hola Guatemala

The airport is filled with photos showing the diversity in Guatemala. Love it!

With the exception of a disgruntled old brawd who worked for United Airlines at Dallas Forth Worth airport and who clearly drank a whole gallon of stank juice this morning everyone I came in contact with today was exceptionally nice.  To include the TSA workers who are more often than not rude as hell. It was almost like I was in the twilight zone or something.  Continue reading

Saya-Fricken-Nara Tanzania

OMG. I didn’t think this day would ever come.  Let me stop acting like that.  While the more than a month spent in Tanzania was less than I had hoped it would be so many great things came out of me being here.

In honor of my departure I have compiled a list of the things that I will/will not miss. Like to hear it? Here it goes. Continue reading

I’m coming up on the rough side of the mountain – Day 2

I woke up to this view today

I was prepared to wake up feeling like I was trampled on by a large pack of African elephants and mauled by wild dogs this morning. Instead I woke up feeling great.  My body even felt strong throughout today’s climb…and today’s climb was a BEAST.  Not just any beast…..a wild ferocious beast. Imagine climbing 6 + hours straight up a steep mountain….over huge boulders….in the pouring rain. When I say steep I mean I felt like we were making a B-line straight to heaven. Continue reading

Lord, don’t move that mountain. Give me strength to climb it.

I’m ready. Let’s go!

It is 5:30 pm local time and tomorrow morning I leave to conquer the tallest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.  I’m not even going to lie, I woke up at 2 am  nervous as heck at the thought of taking on this huge beast.  My nerves were so shaken up that I had to get up and “use the bathroom”.  This was actually a pro since my system had taken a leave of absence since the safari.  Continue reading

Stop Lion

For the last five days I have been on an amazing Safari traveling through four different national parks/conservation areas; Lake Manyara, the well-known Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater, and Terengerie National Park. Daniela and I were still traveling together and we were in a group with a loud mouth, chain-smoking, chatterbox, party animal couple from Spain, and a know-it-all dude from Slovenia. Continue reading

Come ‘on to the church

I attended church with my host family and the kids from the orphanage this morning. The church is a stones throw away from where we sleep so even though I had already had an extremely exhausting few days here..sleeping in was not an option.

I honestly thought I was in a Catholic service with the amount of times we stood up and down during the three hour service. The entire service was in Swahili with the exception of the sermon which was translated for us by our new friend Emanuel (Ema).  I was shocked to find out that our guide Thomas is also the Kirk Franklin of Msae (the village where I’m staying). This cat plays the piano, sings, directs the choir, serves as the sound engineer, and performs dances to pre-recorded music with the choir.  All in one service.  I was exhausted watching this man in action. Continue reading
