Decisions Decisions….

I’ve been feeling a little disconnected lately.  As I’ve said before Playa Guiones is filled with a TON of Americans and it feels like I’m vacationing in Florida somewhere.  The living is a bit too easy for my tastes. I actually love to feel like I’m in a foreign land engaging in uncommon activities and dealing with the inconveniences that come with being in a foreign country. Who comes all the way to Central America to only speak English, gossip about the neighbors cheating husband, and hang out with grumpy Americans? La Quema del Diablo

El Diablo being whisked away to the “burn site”

December 7th in Guatemala is “La Quema del Diablo” or “The burning of the devil”.  When my teacher told me about this holiday I was excited to participate.  Guatemalans believe that the devil lives in the junk that we leave stored in our homes and in our person.  The actual burning of a statue of the devil symbolizes a cleansing of evil and misfortune.
